Congratulations to those who were selected!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>MONTCLAIR BOOK ESSAY CONTEST 2014\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>The Devil&#8217;s Highway<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>ESSAY PROMPT<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In May 2001, a group of 26 men attempted to cross the border into the desert of southern Arizona, through the deadliest region of the continent, a place called the Devil\u2019s Highway.\u00a0\u00a0They were led by a \u201ccoyote\u201d who abandoned them.\u00a0\u00a0Only 12 survived.\u00a0\u00a0Luis Alberto Urrea explores the politics and policies that can lead to such tragedy, including the personal and social costs of illegal immigration.
