Dr. Hamden鈥檚 professional journey highlights the importance of determination and she uses her experiences to inspire the next generation of STEM innovators. Before attending Harvard, she dropped out of MIT in her first semester, and has learned the importance of keeping going through difficult times. Dr. Hamden is currently an assistant professor at the University of Arizona. Before that, she was an NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow and the R.A. and G.B. Millikan Prize Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Physics at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Hamden was awarded a Nancy Grace Roman Technology Fellowship for her detector work in 2016. Joseph served as director of government relations for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. From 1967 to 1986, he was an educator at Vailsburg High School and Bloomfield High School, and an adjunct professor of accounting at County College of Morris for 12 years.

In 1988, Joseph was elected to the Livingston Township Council and served for three terms, and was elected mayor three times during his tenure. In 1990, he was appointed by the Essex County Executive to serve as the director of planning and economic development and was named 鈥淐itizen of the Year鈥� by the Livingston Chapter of Unico National in 2003. He has worked extensively with the New Jersey Democratic State Committee and served as district director for Senate President Richard Codey. Joseph was named deputy chief of staff in Governor Codey鈥檚 office in November 2004.

Joseph was nominated by Governor Richard Codey in 2005, confirmed by the Senate, and in 2011 and 2013 was re-nominated by Governor Chris Christie, confirmed by the Senate, to continue as a commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU). In January 2018, he was appointed by Governor Phil Murphy to serve as president of the NJBPU. Joseph also serves on the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners鈥� (NARUC) Committee on Critical Infrastructure and Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment; is a member and secretary-treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC); is a member of the National Council on Electricity Policy (NCEP); is on the Board of Directors of the Organization of PJM States, Inc. (OPSI); and is also a member of the Advisory Council to the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

Additionally, Scriffignano provided expert advice on private sector data officers to a group of state Chief Data Officers and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He provided counsel to members of other public sector constituents worldwide. He also served as a forum panelist and keynote speaker at the World Internet Conference in China hosted by President Xi Jinping and the China Development Forum, as well as other major world events. He was recently published or quoted in various publications including CIO.com, Forbes Insights, Huffington Post, Business Insider, InformationWeek, China Daily, Xinhua, PCWeek Russia, Taiwan News, Bangkok Post, Mint (India), The Hill, and others.
