We look forward to welcoming you to our campus.<\/p>\n<p>After you receive your invitation letter from the office of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/international-academic-initiatives\/international-visiting-scholars\/?wp_logged_in=true\">International Academic Initiatives (IAI)<\/a> the next step is applying for the DS-2019. Submit the following documents to <a href=\"mailto:oge@montclair.edu\">oge@montclair.edu<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/global\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/116\/2024\/04\/Montclair-J1-Scholar-DS-2019-Request-Form.pdf\">DS-2019 scholar application.<\/a><br \/>\n2. Proof of funding.<br \/>\n3. Proof of highest degree<br \/>\n4. Proof of English proficiency<br \/>\n5. Proof of Insurance<br \/>\n6. Prior DS-2019\u2019s documents if you have been in the US on J-1 status in the past.<\/p>\n<p>*<strong>All documents must be in English.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Funding<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Documentation evidencing financial support for the duration of your stay in the U.S. You will need to show that you have financial resources of at least $2,000 per month for yourself and $650.00 per month for an accompanying spouse\/child (under 18).These funds must be liquid assets. If you are receiving funding from your home country, university or an external organization you must provide a letter from the organization detailing the support.<\/p>\n<p>Acceptable documents can include a copy of the 精品成人福利在线 University offer letter, bank statements in English in U.S. dollars on the financial institution\u2019s letterhead, and\/or letters in English from sponsoring institutions specifying sponsorship amount, on that institution\u2019s letterhead with their official seal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">English Language Proficiency<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Meet the university\u2019s English proficiency requirement below (exceptions may be made if you are a native speaker or received a degree from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/global\/how-to-apply\/english-language-proficiency-test-requirement-exemptions\/?\">English-speaking country<\/a>):<\/p>\n<p>Note that, per federal regulations: \u201cA prospective exchange visitor must have sufficient proficiency in the English language to undertake the anticipated program successfully. Participants may not avoid the English language requirement by claiming that their site of activity offers a work environment in their native language.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>o TOEFL iBT minimum score \u2013 70<br \/>\no IELTS minimum score \u2013 6.0<br \/>\no Duolingo minimum score \u2013 95<br \/>\no Pearson PTE-A minimum score \u2013 48<br \/>\no ITEP minimum score \u2013 3.7<br \/>\no English3 J-1 English Interview minimum score \u2013 3.0<br \/>\no Language Certificate demonstrating B2 Level or higher based on the European Framework<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Insurance<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Visiting scholars are required by the U.S. State Department to purchase medical insurance for themselves and any accompanying dependents. According to 22 CFR 62.14, all J-1 and J-2 Exchange Visitors are required to have and maintain health insurance that meets Department of State&#8217;s requirements. A summary of these insurance requirements is as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Major medical benefits must be at least $100,000 for each accident or illness.<\/li>\n<li>Repatriation of remains benefit must be at least $25,000.<\/li>\n<li>Medical evacuation benefit must be at least $50,000.<\/li>\n<li>The deductible for each accident or illness may not exceed $500.<\/li>\n<li>Policy may not unreasonably exclude coverage for perils inherent to the activities of the exchange program.<\/li>\n<li>Any policy, plan, or contract secured to fill the above requirements must, at a minimum, be:(1) Underwritten by an insurance corporation having an A.M. Best rating of \u201cA\u00a5\u201d or above; a McGraw Hill Financial\/Standard &amp; Poor\u2019s Claims-paying Ability rating of \u201cA\u00a5\u201d or above; a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of \u201cB+\u201d or above; a Fitch Ratings, Inc. rating of \u201cA\u00a5\u201d or above; a Moody\u2019s Investor Services rating of \u201cA3\u201d or above; or such other rating as the Department of State may from time to time specify.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>*If you have insurance from your home country: The Department of State\u2019s language regarding insurance from home is quite vague: \u201cThe policy must be backed by the full faith and credit of your home country government\u201d. This means that your home country insurance must fully cover all your health needs while you are in the United States. Dependents who are minors should be accompanied by another adult. Dependents will receive a <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/j1visa.state.gov\/basics\/j2-visa\/\" target=\"_blank\">J-2 visa<\/a>. Accompanying spouses on a J-2 visa are permitted to work in the U.S. but must apply for an <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/greencard\/employment-authorization-document\" target=\"_blank\">Employment Authorization Document<\/a>.\u00a0 Accompanying children on a J-2 visa can attend school.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Applying for the J-1 visa<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Once you receive your DS-2019 then you will need to apply for a <a href=\"https:\/\/j1visa.state.gov\/\">J-1 Visa<\/a>.<br \/>\n1. Pay the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/sevis\/i901\" target=\"_blank\">SEVIS I-901 Fee<\/a><br \/>\n2.
