For information regarding employment rules and responsibilities, please visit the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/global\/current-students\/f-1-students\/maintaining-f-1-status\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maintaining F-1 Status<\/a> or <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/global\/current-students\/j-1-students\/maintaining-j-1-status\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maintaining J-1 Status<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<h2>Process for On-campus Employment<\/h2>\n<div class=\"prpl-step-group\"><div class=\"prpl-step\"><div class=\"prpl-step-number\"><span class=\"label-part\">Step<\/span> <span class=\"number-part\">1<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step-content\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer open\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Request a Social Security Letter from the Office of Global Engagement in MyGlobal Portal&period;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\"><span class=\"prpl-button\"><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair-isss.terradotta.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Security.AngLogin\" target=\"_blank\">Social Security Letter Request Form<\/a><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step\"><div class=\"prpl-step-number\"><span class=\"label-part\">Step<\/span> <span class=\"number-part\">2<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step-content\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer open\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">The Office of Global Engagement will contact you via email when your documents are ready for pick-up&period; <\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step\"><div class=\"prpl-step-number\"><span class=\"label-part\">Step<\/span> <span class=\"number-part\">3<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step-content\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer open\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">After you receive your documents&comma; have the supervisor of your hiring department sign the Employment Confirmation Letter&period;  <\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step\"><div class=\"prpl-step-number\"><span class=\"label-part\">Step<\/span> <span class=\"number-part\">4<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"prpl-step-content\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer open\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Apply for a Social Security Number&period;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">The following documents are required:\n<ul>\n<li>Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/number-card\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/number-card&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1720782473089000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1baWMo_ioJpfFLRt2nZj38\">www.ssa.gov\/number-card<\/a> to start the process online.\u00a0 After you have completed the online application, you then must present the documents below\u00a0 to the local Social Security office within 45 days.\u00a0 If applying online, you may request an appointment to visit the office at a specific date and time, after you\u2019ve entered all your information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Documents to bring to appointment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social Security Letter from Office of Global Engagement<\/li>\n<li>Employment Confirmation Letter from your hiring supervisor<\/li>\n<li>A valid passport<\/li>\n<li>Form I-20 with original signature (with work authorization on the second page if using CPT\/OPT) or Form DS-2019 (with work authorization on the first page if using Academic Training)<\/li>\n<li>Printout of your <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/travel\/international-visitors\/i-94\" target=\"_blank\">electronic I-94 record<\/a> (or paper I-94, when applicable)<\/li>\n<li>Visa that corresponds to your nonimmigrant status (F-1 or J-1) or previous visa and I-797 Approval Notice if you successfully changed status in the United States<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Standard processing time for the issuance of a Social Security Number is approximately two weeks, though this could take longer if your application goes through administrative processing. I-9 processing hours are listed on the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/human-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">Human Resources website<\/a>.
