Reid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On an occasion that celebrated the legacy of a beloved former university president and marked a significant transformation of a campus landmark, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2023\/02\/27\/science-hall-renamed-irvin-d-reid-hall\/\">the dedication of Irvin D. Reid Hall<\/a> was a day to remember for all. This event was made all the more meaningful through the contributions of the Sprague Library&#8217;s archive, which played a pivotal role in ensuring President Irvin D. Reid\u2019s contributions, and the history of the university, would be preserved for generations to come.<\/p>\n<h2>The Renaming of Science Hall<\/h2>\n<p>The transformation of Science Hall into Irvin D. Reid Hall was not just a simple renaming but a heartfelt tribute to a man whose leadership had a profound impact on the university. President Irvin D. Reid served as the university&#8217;s seventh president from 1989 to 1997, a tenure marked by innovation, inclusivity, and a deep commitment to the betterment of both the institution and its community.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of President Reid&#8217;s contributions, the decision was made to rename Science Hall in his honor. This renaming was a symbol of the enduring legacy he left behind, as well as an opportunity to inspire future generations of students, faculty, and staff with his remarkable story.<\/p>\n<h2>The Role of Sprague Library&#8217;s Archive<\/h2>\n<p>Sprague Library&#8217;s archive, renowned for its dedication to preserving the history of the university, was entrusted with the responsibility of providing artifacts and historical materials related to President Irvin D. Reid for the dedication ceremony. The library&#8217;s role in this event highlighted the importance of archives in maintaining and showcasing an institution&#8217;s heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The archive&#8217;s collection of materials related to President Reid included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Event materials from his inauguration<\/li>\n<li>Yearbooks documenting president Reid\u2019s accomplishments<\/li>\n<li>Photographs that provide a glimpse into his presidency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These materials showcased his tireless dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus environment and his commitment to academic excellence.<\/p>\n<p>This event was also attended by the current president, Dr. Jonathan Koppell. President Koppell&#8217;s presence served as a testament to the university&#8217;s commitment to excellence and the seamless transition of leadership from one president to another. When asked about the library\u2019s archival contributions, Koppell commented, \u201cI think it\u2019s really important to have an archive of the university and to take a moment to look back at these physical artifacts\u2026the university has changed an incredible amount, but it is still the same place.
