Use Navigate\u2019s Alerts!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning Summer 2024, instructors can raise an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/navigate\/early-warning-program\/\">ad-hoc alert<\/a> for students who require research assistance. When instructors submit their <strong>Library: Research Support Needed<\/strong> alert, a librarian will reach out to each student personally to offer services. Correspondence can be monitored on the instructor\u2019s Navigate homepage under <strong>&#8220;Alerts.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>For students unfamiliar with library resources, a librarian can help them with:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>An orientation to the library<\/li>\n<li>Orientations to discipline-specific library resources<\/li>\n<li>Locating and requesting sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>For students struggling to get started on their research assignment, a librarian can help them with:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing, narrowing, or broadening their research topic<\/li>\n<li>Developing a search strategy (e.g., keywords for searching)<\/li>\n<li>Selecting appropriate databases for their research topic<\/li>\n<li>Identifying primary and secondary sources as well as peer-reviewed sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>For students in a research intensive or capstone class needing help organizing their sources, a librarian can help them:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Tracking down citations<\/li>\n<li>Citation management software like Endnote or Zotero<\/li>\n<li>Cite sources &#8211; The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/center-for-writing-excellence\/\">Center for Writing Excellence (CWE)<\/a> can also help here<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How the library will provide support:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair.libcal.com\/calendar\/workshops?cid=9293&amp;t=g&amp;d=0000-00-00&amp;cal=9293&amp;inc=0\" target=\"_blank\">Workshops<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Library 101 (library resources orientation)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Discover your topic<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gathering your sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair.libcal.com\/appointments\/\" target=\"_blank\">Research Appointments<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">One-on-one (or small groups for group projects)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Online &amp; in-person options<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please reach out to <a href=\"mailto:askref@montclair.edu\">askref@montclair.edu<\/a> if you have any questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning Summer 2024, instructors can raise an ad-hoc alert for students who require research assistance.
