At RIGS, we believe that meaningful faculty\u2013student partnerships lie at the heart of global, interdisciplinary inquiry. Our network brings together faculty scholars from across the humanities, social sciences, STEM and professional disciplines with motivated students eager to engage in real-world research.<\/p>\n
Interdisciplinary reach<\/strong>: Our thematic research collaboratives \u2014 Human Rights, Conflict & Migration<\/em>; Development, Health & Environment<\/em>; Science, Technology & Innovation<\/em>; Culture, Gender & Social Change<\/em> \u2014 span disciplinary and geographic boundaries, offering rich opportunities for collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Student engagement & skill-building<\/strong>: Whether undergraduates or graduate students, student participants gain hands-on experience in research design, data collection and analysis, digital methods, and dissemination of findings.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Faculty leadership<\/strong>: Faculty researchers lead major investigations and invite student collaborators to join as research assistants, interns, co-authors, or presenters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Global & local impact<\/strong>: Projects may partner with external organizations, community stakeholders, or international networks, enhancing both the research experience and real-world relevance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Supportive infrastructure<\/strong>: RIGS offers workshops, mentoring, and access to our network of scholars and resources to support both faculty and student engagement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Faculty propose a student-engaged project<\/strong> \u2014 Faculty members affiliated with RIGS submit a research project invitation (or incorporate student collaboration in an existing project).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Recruitment of student researchers<\/strong> \u2014 RIGS facilitates a call for interested students; faculty select from motivated candidates based on project fit, skills and interest.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Project timeline & scope<\/strong> \u2014 Student roles may be semester-long or year-long, part-time or full-time, depending on funding\/credits. Projects may lead to conference presentations, co-written papers or public-facing outputs.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Mentorship and training<\/strong> \u2014 Faculty provide direct supervision; RIGS organizes optional workshops in research methods, digital tools, ethical engagement, and interdisciplinary framing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Showcasing outcomes<\/strong> \u2014 Student and faculty collaborators present findings at RIGS events, partner symposia, or through digital platforms (including StoryMaps, blogs, journal articles) to raise their profiles and strengthen their academic portfolios.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n Real-world research experience<\/strong> building your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 or graduate school application.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Mentorship from faculty<\/strong> engaged in cutting-edge interdisciplinary work.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Skill development<\/strong> in research design, data methods, digital tools and communication.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Networking<\/strong> opportunities with external partners, scholars and practitioners.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Visibility<\/strong> through publications, presentations or campus events.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Engage enthusiastic student collaborators who bring fresh perspectives and energy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Expand your project\u2019s capacity, productivity and potential for dissemination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Support educational goals by integrating research and teaching.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Strengthen your profile for grants or external partnerships by demonstrating student engagement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Leverage RIGS\u2019 network to connect across disciplines and between faculty and student researchers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Faculty<\/strong>: If you\u2019d like to recruit student researchers for a new or ongoing project, submit a brief project proposal using this Google form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Students<\/strong>: Watch for RIGS or PAL calls<\/a> for student researchers each semester. You\u2019ll need to submit a short statement of interest, CV\/resum\u00e9, and (if applicable) sample work or transcript.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Deadlines<\/strong>: Student applications typically open each semester (e.g., Spring 2026).
