Leadership Development

The WIN group held several roundtable discussions to determine the types of programs of interest. One key area identified was leadership development. WIN hosted several workshops, including 鈥淏uilding Your Authentic Personal Brand,鈥 presented by Tara Chiara, certified executive leadership and career coach, which helped participants identify their personal brand and understand why it鈥檚 important for career success. Through a series of practical activities, participants defined their individuality, focused on their values and clarified their purpose with the goal of leaving the session with a compelling personal brand statement.

Participants gained heightened awareness of personal image and executive presence and how that can empower you to take charge of your career momentum and stand-out while being your best self. Chiara explained that personal branding is how you package yourself and communicate your unique skills and the value you bring to a team or company. It鈥檚 a mix of how you present yourself and how others see you. Building an authentic brand and taking control of it positions you to leave a lasting impression. Your personal brand can open pathways to opportunities and boost your career velocity.

Previous leadership development workshops included 鈥淣egotiation in the Workplace 鈥 Strategies for the Career Advancement of Women,鈥 a workshop also presented by Chiara. The program focused on negotiation as an essential skill in one鈥檚 career and in life. Chiara pointed to studies that have suggested that men are promoted based on their perceived potential while women are promoted after proving they can do it. Chiara shared insights on how to negotiate effectively (and authentically) and to break the cycle of the 鈥榩otential vs. performance鈥 roadblock.
