Dr. Stephanie Silvera, Professor in the Public Health Department, recently commented on the longer than usual flu season in New Jersey for NJ Spotlight News.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, influenza activity level is considered 鈥渉igh鈥 statewide. Dr. Silvera says that’s because we’re experiencing a later-than-usual flu season. She stated, “Typically our flu season runs from late November somewhere into around April. What’s really interesting this year is we saw a peak at the end of December in the number of cases. And then those flu cases dropped down quite dramatically and they stayed low through the first two months of the year. And now they are starting to increase again.” She added, “Now we are letting up our guard, and flu is having the opportunity to come back.”
