A writing workshop with award-winning author Laura Pritchett, who joined a hybrid seminar via zoom.
鈥淭he best arguments in the world won鈥檛 change a person鈥檚 mind. The only thing that can do that is a good story.鈥 So writes Richard Powers in聽The Overstory, and in this class we鈥檒l be focusing on writing stories that change people鈥檚 minds (in all genres, including fiction, poetry, and nonfiction). Come with a notebook or laptop and be ready to dive into a rigorous few hours of reading, writing, and craft talks about nature writing today.
Laura Pritchett is a prize-winning author of Three Keys (Ballantine Books 2024), 鈥,鈥 Terrain, February 2024, and many other works of fiction and non-fiction.

fiction is rooted in the natural world鈥攁nd celebrates the people who live close to it. She鈥檚 the author of seven novels, two nonfiction books, and editor of three anthologies, and her work has been the recipient of the PEN USA Award, the Milkweed National Fiction Prize, the WILLA, the High Plains Book Award, and several Colorado Book Awards. She鈥檚 also a freelance writer with publications in the LA Times, The New York Times, Orion, Terrain, Creative Nonfiction, and more. She holds a PhD from Purdue and she developed and directs the low-residency MFA in Nature Writing at Western Colorado University, one of the few graduate programs dedicated to writing about the natural world.
