The NJ News Commons 鈥 with support from the Patterson Foundation, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and SCM 鈥 offered a three-day training program for community news publishers beginning on May 16. The program, Community Journalism Executive Training (CJET), focused on business issues unique to entrepreneurial community news publishers.

Steve Rosenbaum is founder and CEO of Magnify.net, a platform company that allows publishers, brands, and Web communities to embrace Web content with aggregation, curation, and user contributions. Rosenbaum has been working with Curated Content since he created the groundbreaking hit MTV UNfiltered in the pre-Web days. Since then, he’s been a storyteller, filmmaker, and executive at media and Web properties. He’s produced films for HBO, A&E, National Geographic, CNN, MSNBC, and Discovery.听

Kerger joined PBS as its sixth CEO in March 2006, and has since made particularly strong commitments to the arts, news and public affairs, high-quality content for education, diversity and the use of new technology to bring public media into the lives of all Americans.

MediaStorm publishes diverse narratives on the human condition, offers advanced multimedia training seminars and collaborates with a diverse group of clients ranging from international corporations to individual photojournalists and artists.
February 13, 2013 –听鈥淐overing Baseball in a Changing Media” Panel Discussion

Moderated by Marc Rosenweig, SCM’s assistant professor of Television and Digital Media, the panel will be comprised of three sports journalists and will explore the challenges of covering baseball in a changing media age. The panel guests are Paul Hagan; Russ Salzberg; and Jeff Bradley. This event is co-sponsored by SCM and the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center.
January 29, 2013 – John Del Cecato

John Del Cecato,听 a partner at AKPD Message and Media, was responsible for writing, directing and producing many of President Obama鈥檚 nationally broadcast television ads 鈥 including several spots that internal research found to be the most effective of the presidential campaign.
January 26, 2013 – “Hackathon鈥

精品成人福利在线 University hosted New Jersey鈥檚 first ever journalist-tech hackathon, titled 鈥淗ack Jersey.鈥 One-hundred participants from the New Jersey and New York area signed up to compete in the sold-out event. Hack Jersey 鈥 sponsored and hosted by the NJ News Commons at 精品成人福利在线 University, in partnership with Knight-Mozilla Open News 鈥 is a 24-hour competition, allowing groups of journalists and software coders to team together to create original projects that could transform the way New Jersey residents use data and experience news. Each project was presented to an all-star panel of four judges from the news and technology industries and graded based on specific criteria.

For a fourth consecutive year, 精品成人福利在线 University and Opera New Jersey co-hosted the Curtain Call Award vocal competition. The event was organized by students enrolled in SCM鈥檚 Public Relations program.
December 9, 2012 – “Behind the Screen: Media Careers 101”

精品成人福利在线 University鈥檚 Filmmaking Program, in partnership with the Montclair Film Festival (MFF), presented a day of free seminars 听featuring professionals who will discuss careers in film, television, and media.听 The program is intended for high school and 精品成人福利在线 University students, following a successful event of its kind held last year.
December 5, 2012 鈥 DuMont Broadcaster of the Year, Award Ceremony

SCM鈥檚 Television and Digital Media unit recognized听Ian Eagle听from CBS Sports听and the YES Network and听Bruce Beck听from WNBC-TV with the school鈥檚 Allen B. Du Mont Broadcaster of the Year Award. Eagle and Beck spoke about their sports media careers and answer questions. 听A special edition of “Carpe Diem” was produced .
November 27, 2012 – Media Internship Fair

The听NJ News Commons听 sponsored an Internship Fair to introduce communication and journalism majors at 精品成人福利在线 University to news organizations across the state. Representatives of NJTV, NJPR, WGBO,听NJ Spotlight, Baristanet, NJ Tech Weekly, Morristown Green, NJ Arts News, Glocally Newark,听Paterson Press, Elizabeth Inside Out,听The Jersey Tomato Press听and others gave a brief presentation of their respective organizations and meet with students regarding internship opportunities.

Collaborating for the first time, news organizations across New Jersey, led by 精品成人福利在线 University鈥檚听NJ News Commons,听 monitored voting problems throughout the state and identified potential polling issues brought on by the damage of Superstorm Sandy. The numerous media partners include NJTV, New Jersey Public Radio, WHYY, WBGO, NJ Spotlight, NJ.com, Patch, NorthJersey.com, Baristanet, My Verona NJ, Elizabeth Inside Out, Glocally Newark, Hoboken Mile Square View, and Jersey Shore Hurricane News.听 Students from the School of Communication and Media monitored a hotline during polling hours through which voters were able to report any voting problems, which were communicated to the news collaborative as they developed.
October 11, 2012 – Andrew Heyward

Emmy-award-winning producer and president of CBS News from 1996-2005,听听is an adviser on digital media and strategy and nationally recognized expert on news innovation. Before his tenure as CBS president, Heyward was executive producer of听The CBS Evening News听(1994-1996). Heyward was also responsible for developing and launching听48 Hours, the weekly primetime听CBS News听series that premiered in January 1988. He has won 12 national Emmy Awards. 听To launch the Experts in Media Forum, Heyward will be interviewed by SCM Director Merrill Brown in a discussion open to the campus community.
