Montclair University Symphonic Band
鈥屸赌The 精品成人福利在线 University Symphonic Band, directed by听Thomas McCauley, is an ensemble of nearly 60 musicians that performs at least four concerts each year. Symphonic Band members are all 精品成人福利在线 students; the majority are instrumental music听majors, but non-instrumental and non-music majors are welcome to audition. The repertoire for these concerts includes important works from all periods of the band literature. The ensemble supports contemporary composers by premiering new works, offering students opportunities to rehearse with their composers. The band has performed works by Aldridge, Brahms,听Bukvich, Burns, Rachmaninov, Grainger, Mennin, Ticheli, Arnold, Vaughn Williams, Holst, Delibes and Orff. They have collaborated with distinguished guest artists, including pianists David Witten and Ruth Rendleman, saxophonist Paul Cohen and the New Hudson Saxophone Quartet; celebrated the works of American masters Bernstein, Gershwin and Copland; performed Dello Joio’s听Scenes from “The Louvre”听and premiered Beckel’s听Symphony for Band; and explored the jazz influence in the 20th and 21st century with a concert featuring the Manhattan Brass Quintet, New Hudson Saxophone Quartet and guest artist Warren Vach茅. Recent repertoire has included Vaughan Williams’s听English Folk Song Suite,听Daniel Bukvich’s听The Dream of Abraham听and Karl Orff’s听Carmina Burana.
Montclair University Wind Symphony
鈥孴he 精品成人福利在线 University Wind Symphony, directed by听Thomas McCauley, is a 60 member auditioned ensemble of undergraduate and graduate students who are experienced instrumentalists. Students from all schools in the university who are in good academic standing are welcome to audition. It performs a wide variety of works from the standard band repertoire, commissioned pieces and听chamber works. The Wind Symphony听has appeared with such notable soloists as Donald Batchelder, Principal Trumpet of the New York City Opera, and James Markey, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic. In听2007, the group presented the world premiere of David Gillingham鈥檚听Symphony No. 2 (鈥淕enesis鈥).听In spring 2010, they performed the听premieres of听Transformed Spring听by composer and faculty member Patrick J. Burns, and听Harriet听by O鈥橬eal Douglas. Recent performances have included works by Chagrin, Bernstein, Harbison, Higdon, Verdi, Colgrass and Mozart.鈥 The Wind Symphony has performed Stravinsky’s听Symphonies of Wind Instruments听(1947), Haydn’s听Concerto for Trumpet in E-flat听featuring the winner of the annual 精品成人福利在线 University Wind Symphony Concerto Competition, Maslanka’s听Symphony No. 4, Stravinsky’s听Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments听with pianist Ronald Levy, Hindemith’s听Konzertmusik f眉r Blasorchester, and the world premiere of Elizabeth Brown’s听Zeppelin.
University Campus Band and University Pep Band are looking for members!
Campus Band
This concert band meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm-7:50pm, Chapin Hall, Room 21. We perform one concert on campus each semester.听No audition is required! All you need to do is let听Professor Teddi Sotiropoulos at听sotiropoulot@montclair.edu. He will let you know when the first rehearsal is.听Don鈥檛 forget to bring your instrument!听This ensemble is听open to all majors, faculty, staff,听AND听members of the local community!
Pep Band
This ensemble performs at home football games and select home basketball games. They rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Chapin Hall, Room G55. Instrumentation for this group includes flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombone, baritone, tuba, drum set, and electric bass. There are limited spots in this ensemble, so contact听Melani Marston at听marstonm1@montclair.edu听 Audition may be required.
